Brass Lessons

Brass Lessons with Jesùs Lorente González

Jesús started playing the trombone at the age of 8 in his local wind band in Tobarra, Spain. In 2019, he graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he studied with Simon Johnson, Davur Juul Magnussen and Lance Green. During his time in the RCS, he took part in the RSNO Apprenticeship Scheme and the BBC SSO Mentoring Scheme. He also received awards such as David James Brass Prize and Mary D Adams Prize for Chamber Music.

Since 2016, Jesús has been teaching brass in primary and secondary schools across North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Sistema Scotland.

As well as teaching, Jesús works as a freelance musician playing a great variety of styles, from classical to jazz and rock. One of his highlights is the premiere of ‘Ebb & Flow’ by Lisa Robertson on BBC Radio Scotland, a piece for solo trombone composed for him as part of a Nevis Ensemble project.

Brass lessons with Allan Wylie

Allan started playing the trumpet aged 9, attending a school with a comprehensive music training curriculum. Allan went on to study Classical Method and Repertoire at Glasgow University and was taught through the RSAMD under Ian Muirhead (Scottish Ballet) and Nigel Boddice.

He sat on the First Chair for the Kelvin Ensemble during this time. Upon achieving a Bachelor of Music Degree with Honours, Allan signed a record deal with Amsterdam based label, Roadrunner Records, alongside Franz Ferdinand front man, Alex Kapranos. Allan was a long-term session musician with Scottish group Arab Strap and joined them on stages across the world.

Allan has toured the USA, Canada, Europe and the UK extensively over three decades as well as appearing on numerous recordings, on radio and on television. He is an active member of various jazz groups, the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, several big bands and has recently been working with world renowned trumpeter Gerard Prescencer. Allan continues to blend working as a musician and teaching. He takes students from Primary aged children to adults, from beginners to advanced players alike.

Allan has experience of working with young people who have complex behavioural support needs and with people who experience a variety of barriers to learning. Allan also teaches Jazz Harmony and improvisation techniques and has a firm belief that everyone should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Allan tutors the Renfrewshire Schools Jazz Band and will start teaching in the Autumn for East Dumbartonshire Music Service.
